DHL, UPS, and FedEx Oversize & Overweight Shipping Policy
In international logistics, carriers such as DHL, UPS, and FedEx have specific definitions and regulations for oversized and overweight shipments, and they impose additional surcharges accordingly. To help you plan your shipments effectively and avoid unexpected costs, we’ve provided this guide to clarify key policies related to "Oversize & Overweight Logistics."
"Oversize & Overweight Logistics" refers to parcels that exceed the standard size or weight limits. This means a shipment can be considered subject to surcharges either due to its large dimensions or heavy weight, or a combination of both. Criteria may include:
· Any side or combined dimensions exceeding carrier thresholds (e.g., the longest side over 100CM, or length + 2×width + 2×height over a defined limit);
· Individual parcel actual or volumetric weight exceeding 25KG, 30KG, or 50KG, depending on service tier;
· Irregularly shaped items that cannot be processed automatically;
Since each carrier has slightly different standards, we strongly recommend confirming specifics before shipping.
Major express companies such as DHL, UPS, and FedEx rely on automated sorting systems to enhance efficiency. Oversize or overweight packages:
· Occupy more space and require additional resources;
· Incur higher manual handling costs;
· May delay processing time or require special routing;
As a result, carriers apply additional handling, oversize, or overweight surcharges to cover these extra operational costs.
At present, our website does not automatically display or calculate oversize/overweight surcharges during checkout. The system only provides a preliminary estimate based on standard export shipping rates.
However, if a shipment is later determined to be oversize or overweight by DHL, UPS, or FedEx, the final freight charges may include surcharges. In such cases, we follow these operational principles:
· To avoid shipment delays, we will prepay the surcharge on your behalf;
· Once the final carrier invoice is issued, we will contact you to settle the actual costs;
We follow a "ship first, adjust later" and "refund or recharge the difference" policy:
· If the surcharge is less than expected, we will refund the difference;
· If the actual surcharge is higher, we may reach out to you to collect the additional cost;
· Especially for significantly oversized, overweight, or non-conforming items, we will notify you promptly with solutions;
Our standard practice has always been to prioritize timely shipment, then make fair cost adjustments as needed to ensure every charge is transparent, reasonable, and under control.
Each carrier publishes its own oversize and overweight surcharge policies. You can review their latest guidelines and rate charts on their official websites below:
