If the spring is used without a spring guide, the spring will bend vertically and horizontally, and high stress will be generated locally on the inner side of the bend, leading to final breakage. Therefore, be sure to use a spring guide such as a guide pin or an outer diameter guide. Generally speaking, it is best to use the guide pin from top to bottom through the inner diameter guide.

2. Use without preload

If there is a gap, the spring will move up and down, generating impact force and causing longitudinal and lateral bending. If the spring is preloaded before use, the upper and lower surfaces of the spring will become stable.

3. Use when clamping waste or foreign matter

If a foreign object is caught, the corresponding part of the spring coil will not work, and the rest of the coil will be compressed as shown in the figure below. This is actually equivalent to reducing the number of effective spring coils, which will generate high stress and eventually lead to breakage. Therefore, please be careful not to let foreign objects enter.

4. Use springs in series

a. When used in-line, as shown in the figure below, the spring bends and sometimes gets caught in the guide pin countersunk hole, and eventually breaks for the same reason as 1.

In addition, due to the difference in spring load, the spring with a smaller load cannot resist the spring with a larger load, causing the compression of the spring with a smaller load to increase, resulting in reduced durability and breakage.

b. When two springs are used in series, the constant value of each spring is halved.

5. Springs are used in pairs

As shown in the figure below, when springs are used in pairs, after the spring is bent longitudinally, the inner part will enter between the outer wires (and vice versa), resulting in eventual breakage.

6. Use the spring horizontally

When the spring is used horizontally, the guide pin will cause wear on the inner diameter of the spring, and the worn part will be the starting point, leading to final breakage.
