Measure Inner Diameter (ID)

Place the o ring flat on a solid surface, forming a full circle. Then, take a ruler or caliper and measure the straight-line distance between the inner borders.

Tip:

1. If the o ring is damaged or bent, carefully reshape it to a round shape before measuring.

2. To reduce inaccuracies, use a tape measure that is tight against the inside edge.


Measuring the Outer Diameter (OD)

OD = ID + 2 × CS,

where CS is the cross-sectional diameter.

Tips:

If calipers aren’t available, measure the o ring's height when laid flat, which approximates the cross-sectional diameter.
