Essential Sprockets and Chains Guide: Key Information & Tips

Introduction

Types of Chains


Roller Chain

Stainless Steel Chain


A stainless steel chain is similar to a roller chain but made of different materials. It is suitable in the high humidity and corrosion situation.


Types of Sprockets


Sprockets include various sizes that are suitable for different types of chains. Sprockets are divided into active sprockets, driven sprockets, and idler sprockets, and each type of sprocket has different functions and practical applications.


Active sprockets


Active sprocket connects to the power source which transmits the rotational force to the chain, and the chain will transmit power to other parts of the machine.


Driven sprockets


The power required to drive the sprocket, since it must be driven by the chain leads to the rotation of the drive shaft rotates with one circle.


Idler sprockets


The idler sprockets in a chain drive system do not transmit power and needn't be driven. 1. Determine the Application Requirements


Before selecting chain drive components, consider the application scenario.


Load and Speed: Identify the load that has to be transferred by the chain drive, along with its operating speed

2. Proper Lubrication
